My name is Cavin Vanderpoel
First and foremost, I'm a creator. Whether it's music, photography, video, or graphic design, I always feel the need to make something.
When I was about 10 years old I started playing guitar. I never was one to sit down and have someone teach me chords or scales, instead I would put some of my favorite songs on repeat and listen to them over and over until I eventually taught myself to play them.
When I started playing guitar in my first band, I couldn't afford to go to an expensive recording studio, so I purchased Pro Tools and learned how to record my band myself. By the time I attended the online extension of Berklee College of Music in 2010, I already had taught myself quite a bit about about the recording process and the associated editing, mixing, and mastering techniques. While I was taking these classes I started recording local bands in my area; putting a lot of time and effort into not only recording, but helping produce the music as well.
In 2015 I started a YouTube channel where I created videos centered on men's hair and style. I had never filmed or edited video before, so this was another thing that I had to teach myself. Not only did I film and edit at least one video a week, but I also learned a lot about the men's hair product industry and created many business relationships with hair product companies. During this time I also learned quite a bit about social media marketing and the YouTube platform specifically.
While I was creating videos for my YouTube channel I also began working as a freelance photographer, taking product photos of the hair products I was reviewing; working with both local and international brands such as Boogie’s by Dollar Shave Club, Mister Pompadour, and Verb.
In my spare time, I'm usually watching a Liverpool game, playing video games, or finding an ethical way to clone my 6-year-old Border Collie/Springer Spaniel mix, Luna.
Feel free to reach out to me anytime; I love listening to people talk about what they're passionate about, and if I have the chance to help you I will go out of my way to make it happen.
